Data Scientist is the sexiest Job of the 21st century. There are experts saying ‘Data scientists today are akin to the Wall Street “quants” of the 1980s and 1990s’. Living in a data-driven world create job vacancies for data scientists, and the dataset we are going to analyze contains 12000+ fresh data science job listing, it is quite helpful for job seekers to get an insight into it.

The data science job listings consist of four major types of data science job (business analyst, data analyst, data engineer, data scientist) in different cities in US and other countries . There are total of 15 dimensions that the data explores, which are of character, numeric and category types.

The plot below compares job vacancies in different state and city. Through the graph, we can see that data scientist jobs are mostly needed in California(CA) and Texas(TX), with cities like Austin, San Antonio, Houston, San Diego, Los Angeles known as best cities in these two states for finding high-tech jobs. Notably, Chicago in Illinois(IL), Philadelphia in PA(Pennsylvania), Phoenix in Arizona(AZ) and the famous New York City are good choices if job seekers would like to launch their jobs in other states.

The graph provides additional information about the average salary in different states. From the bar chart, jobs in California have highest salary among all states as Silicon Valley is located here. The most populous city in the US, New York ranks the second. When searching for high salary jobs, states like Utah and Georgia are not a good place to go, as average salary here is significantly lower than that in US.

Besides states, different types of ownership may also be a factor that affects average salary and job vacancy. In terms of job vacancy, private companies account for most jobs, followed by public companies.When it comes to salary, public companies provide the highest average salary. It is a freedom of choice for each individual to choose a private or public company.

When finding data science jobs, job seekers may be interested in different job titles that match their skill sets. Here we present the information about top 50 job titles about Data Science, with the count ranges from 15 to 801. We could see that data analyst, data engineer and business analyst are the three top job titles in demand, which means that job seekers should improve relevant skills in order to find an ideal job quicker. Senior level jobs such as Senior. Data Engineer, Senior Data Scientist, Senior Data Analysts are less needed in the job market, which indicates that data scientist jobs still need plenty of newcomers with knowledge and passion.
